Majorly disappointing.

Kinja'd!!!

I didn't compare the 4runner or Tundra pricing, but the difference between a top spec TRD 4 door Tacoma with the auto and the TRD pro Tacoma similarly equipped is $4190. ($34,110 Vs $38,300)

Better tires (same size as TRD), a front end lift, better dampers a skid plat and some cosmetics. Worth $4190? hell nay.

Given that the EXACT same suspension kit is on the TRD Catalog for ~$1500? Dayum. So, figure $1500 for the suspension, $1500 for some real tires (285/75r16)...that leaves you with ~$1200 to spend on skid plates and armor...and thats assuming you spent the extra on the TRD package instead of a base model, which would save you ANOTHER $3000.

Balsy Toyota, Balsy.

if only there was a way to wrap a GM recall joke in there, it MIGHT be the funniest thing since ever.

I would have included another joke, but GM already recalled it.

I've always felt that TRD stuff was overpriced.

yes, but its well engineered and backed by Toyota so i can see how they justify the price a little. This though, I feel like they are charging EXTRA on top of retail for these parts.

It's an end-of-cycle package intended to keep public interest and possibly test the waters for interest in something of this nature for the next gen. That said, it does seem like a ripoff.

were it just the taco i might agree, but it's on the 4runner and tundra too. i think Toyota sees a profitable niche and are dipping their toes in the water

Tundra is overdue for a major update. 4Runner will be due soon (mid-cycle update happened recently). You're correct about Toyota dipping their toes in the water, and they aren't the only ones (there was a rumor on here or another site about GM looking into a harder core (beyond the Z71) off-road Colorad/Canyon.

What happened with the Tundra was just a (overdue) mid-cycle update. The 4Runner was new for 2010 and was refreshed last year or this year, I forget which.
